Abstract: Over the past two decades, maize has become a vital food crop and a model for basic genetic research. The achievements in biotechnology, genetically modified crops from very strong investment in research, especially from the private sector, have helped corn yield in the US increase dramatically, about 8 times higher than in the 1930s. In Vietnam, maize yields have doubled since 1995, because of the largely contribution of domestic and imported hybrid maize varieties.
